SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — As the high school football season enters its third week, scholarships worth $15,000 have been established to honor slain Inderkum High football coach Greg Najee Grimes.

​The family of L Street shooting victim, Greg Grimes, are seeking common sense changes to downtown Sacramento to make nightlife safer.

More than 500 people filled the Inderkum High School football stadium bleachers Tuesday evening to remember former student and assistant coach Greg Najee Grimes.

It's been three months since Gregory "Najee" Grimes was killed after leaving a nightclub on L Street in Sacramento.

The man who was killed in an early morning shooting in downtown Sacramento on Monday was identified by his family as 31-year-old Greg Najee Grimes.  Grimes attended Inderkum High School in the Natomas area of Sacramento, where he played football, the family said.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — It has been more than three months since five people were shot outside a nightclub near 15th and L Streets in downtown Sacramento, it ended up taking the life of 31-year-old Greg Najee Grimes.

Local residents are mourning the murder of Sacramento’s Gregory Najee Grimes, a former Inderkum High School and Boise State University football player, who was shot and killed in the early morning of July 4.

Basketball was Greg Najee Grimes’ first love, but football was in his DNA. So eventually he switched role models, trading NBA legend Charles Barkley for NFL great Warren Sapp, and became a star defensive lineman for Inderkum High School.

A vigil for Greg Najee Grimes, a 31-year-old former football star at Inderkum High School and Boise State University, is held Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Sacramento.
